Arrays typically range from 5mm to 200mm in size and individual pixels can be as small as 0.5mm depending on the Crystal Materials Index and thickness. The reflector between the pixels ensures isolation and minimises optical cross talk. Special constructions using high atomic number interleaving materials can also be used to minimise X-ray cross talk.
They are used in pharmaceutical quality assurance, medical and industrial X-ray imaging such as mammography, X-ray baggage and cargo screening at security checkpoints (e.g. airports, sea ports) and in space exploration.
